Abstract

In our work we propose to investigate the linguistic representation of Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian
women in family law texts. Through an empirical analysis, we set out to study, from a gender perspective,
how the institutional language used by the three countries of the Francophone Maghreb influences social
relations and the unprogressive image of gender relations in North Africa. Our aim is to highlight how
institutions see women, their status and role in society, and what is missing to achieve full social and
cultural equality, even in language, between people living in the North-African region. We approach our
research through a quantitative and a qualitative corpus analysis, through the corpus manager and text
analysis software Sketch Engine.
