Résumé

This article is based on a survey carried out at the ISLV (University of Liège) among students in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) with a B1-level. The given exercise consisted of writing a sequence of words out of context and then of relocating the exact same words in the text from which they were taken. By means of a keen statistical analysis of the transcriptions, we attempt to determine where the most common spelling mistakes (lexical as well as grammatical) are made for a student in FLE, thereby assessing the impact of context on spelling.
