Résumé

This study focuses on a specific type of discourse: academic talk. Based on a corpus of nineteen university lectures from a wide range of disciplines, the article describes two main characteristics of the investigated genre: structuration and dialogism. It offers an overview of a series of forms and expressions present in lecturers' discourses. Based on this analysis, the study reflects on how to help second language students better understand this type of discourse and formulates practical suggestions for oral comprehension activities in the language classroom. The aim of these activities is to introduce the students to specific verbs and discourse markers derived from a data-driven perspective and offer them an opportunity to improve their oral comprehension skills.
